Newborn Session: What to Expect

“When should we schedule our session?” Scheduling a newborn session is a feat all on it’s own. Rarely do babies come when they are due, but a due date will give us a base line. It is best to shoot your little one within the first 10 days of life. They tend to sleep better, have not developed cradle cap yet, or baby acne. When your little one is born, please call me to schedule a more solid shoot date and time.

“Should I feed Baby prior to our session?” No. We want Baby to begin his sleep cycle at the studio, not in the car ride over. I will give you time and space to feed him once you arrive.

“What should we all wear?” I encourage mom and dad to wear black or white, solid t-shirts, or tank top for mom. When photographing newborns, I keep my studio at 80* F. I strongly urge you to bring any special hats, hair-bands, bracelets etc.  You may not like what I have and I may fall in love with what you bring.  So not only will your additions give us more to choose from they are also extra special since they belong to your little one.

“Can older siblings be included?” Absolutely. I love including a few select poses with older siblings. However, the session is about the *new* one, so please do not count on very many. Request specific poses if you are looking for them.

“Can you come to us?” I would love to! Photographs within your own home will make it more personal. I will bring all portable equipment and props to your home for you to pick and choose from. Please seek out the sunniest areas within your home for shooting. Natural light makes for the best photographs. If you have any items of your own you’d like to include, please make them available. Also, 30 minutes prior to my arrival, turn off all fans and/or AC units. The house needs to be between 75-80*F for your baby to be most comfortable while shooting.
